2002 Soldera Case Basse Tasting note #72

2002 Soldera Case Basse, Toscana IGT

The 2002 Soldera carries itself with an almost meditative calm, a wine shaped not by the drama of the vintage but by the precision of its maker. The nose is lifted and haunting — sour cherry, pomegranate, dried rose, and orange peel, joined by subtle notes of bay leaf, tea leaf, and warm terracotta. There’s a quiet depth beneath the elegance, a gentle earth-and-herb undertone that feels unmistakably Soldera.

On the palate, the wine is weightless yet firmly structured, moving with that signature verticality the estate is known for. Acidity is bright and crystalline, guiding flavours of red fruit and citrus across a fine lattice of tannin. Nothing feels forced; the wine speaks in clean, deliberate lines. As it opens, a delicate savoury nuance emerges — dried herbs, subtle spice, and a cool mineral pulse that continues to build.

The finish is long, pure, and resonant, tapering into notes of cherry skin, rose petal, and stone. A remarkably composed expression of Sangiovese, marked by transparency, tension, and quiet confidence — a vintage that whispers, and in doing so, becomes unforgettable.
