The Petal of Rose

Régine Sumeire desired a wine that was lighter in color than the others one day. She came up with the idea of vinifying whole-grain Red Grenache grapes in a cock-type hydraulic press for this. The necessary flow from the press was translucent. The length was instantly obvious, as was the difference. At Château Barbeyrolles, the Petale de Rose, the first clean rosé from Provence, was developed in 1985. This vinification procedure was then utilized to create the cuvée of the same name at Château de la Tour de l’Evêque.

After a dry and moderate winter, the bud burst on the Grenaches at Hyères began on March 20. The April 8 frost did not spare us; plots in Hyères were also impacted. The rains in April and May aided in the regrowth of plants. The effects of this cold were ultimately less severe than we had feared; in May, we were pleasantly surprised to see bunches return! Flowering started on May 17, the summer was dry and cool, and the first sprouts showed on July 16. The harvest started on August 24 and finished on September 29. Tasting notes

Petale de Rose 2020

Its airy nose, with a delicate peach-pink hue, reveals a faint stony veil, conveyed by fresh peaches, floral notes, and anise. The smooth and satiny texture of this dry wine is energised by fresh acidity with a zesty flavour. Its ample heart has pulpy fruits like pomegranate and apricot, flavored with peppery aromas, a hint of anise, and garrigue, and tinted with flint. Long and zesty, it’s evocative of mandarin peel. 90 corked Points
