A Rich History of Excellence
In South Australia’s stunning Clare Valley, winemaker and owner Kevin Mitchell bought the property with the same name in the hamlet of Penwortham. Kevin, who comes from a long history of wine grape growers, finally had the chance to make his dream of starting his own wine company come true.
For more than 40 years, Kevin’s father, Mort Mitchell, has been a defining force in Kilikanoon, planting and caring for the renowned Mort’s Block and other Golden Hillside vineyards. Kevin spent years playing and later working in these vineyards with his father, which is how terroir came to fascinate him. Four wines from Kevin and Mort’s single vineyards made up the inaugural Kilikanoon-branded wines from the 1997 vintage. The Oracle Shiraz, Prodigal Grenache, Blocks Road Cabernet and Mort’s Block Watervale Riesling.
