The winery’s history dates back to the late 1800s, when Gustave Niebaum, a Finnish sea captain, arrived in California. Attracted by the lush terrain and perfect weather conditions for growing grapes, Niebaum bought a 19th-century stone winery and founded Inglenook Winery in 1879. His goal was to produce wines that could stand up to the best in Europe.
Niebaum gave Inglenook careful attention, and it prospered, becoming known for its superb wines. However, the winery saw times of instability and decline as the years went by and ownership changed. Not until the middle of the 1970s did a new chapter start to emerge.
Renowned director and ardent wine lover Francis Ford Coppola set out to bring Inglenook back to its former splendour. Beginning his adventure into winemaking in 1975, Coppola acquired a portion of the original Inglenook estate, which included the ancient Niebaum mansion. Coppola set out to revitalise the estate with a strong respect for Niebaum’s legacy and a desire to honour the winery’s history.
Changing its name Francis Ford Coppola, Niebaum-Coppola, committed his life to making wines that evoked the grace and delicacy of Inglenook’s early years. He invested in state-of-the-art winemaking equipment, replanted vineyards, and renovated the historic chateau with the intention of producing wines that would rank among the best in the world.

2001 Rubicon
The Niebaum-Coppola Winery’s 2001 Rubicon represents the pinnacle of Napa Valley grace and sophistication. Slight notes of cedar and vanilla from oak ageing blend with smells of juicy blackberries, cassis, and tobacco leaf on the nose.

Deep layers of dark fruit, including blackcurrant, black cherry, and plum, are enhanced by subtle hints of dried herbs and espresso.
