Domaine Yves Cuilleron is a renowned winery that stands as a beacon among the top star domains of the region. Rooted in a rich history of winemaking, Yves Cuilleron took up the mantle as the fourth-generation vigneron in 1987, steering the domaine towards even greater heights. Situated in Chavanay, a charming village located just south of Condrieu, Cuilleron has firmly established himself and his wines, earning a formidable reputation in recent years.
With an unwavering commitment to innovation and craftsmanship, Yves Cuilleron consistently pushes the boundaries of winemaking. Each year, our tasting experience at the domaine leaves an indelible impression, as we bear witness to his continuous exploration of new ideas and cuvées. We consider ourselves fortunate to have access to the limited allocation we receive. What began with Yves’ stunning Vin de France has now expanded to encompass his remarkable range of Grands Vins. With over 75 hectares under his ownership and lease, Cuilleron showcases his winemaking prowess through a diverse portfolio.
At Domaine Yves Cuilleron, a distinctive style permeates through all of his creations. The whites, lingering and rich, captivate the senses, while the reds embody depth and opulence with their pronounced mineral character. Yves Cuilleron is a driven individual, with a growing family and a share in vineyards on the eastern side of the Rhône alongside other esteemed growers. In addition to his winemaking endeavors, he also manages an excellent bistrot in Ampuis, further showcasing his passion for the culinary arts.
The recently constructed cellar at the domaine is a testament to Yves Cuilleron’s dedication. Purpose-built and equipped with advanced temperature control, the cellar provides him with the ideal environment for crafting his exceptional wines. With more space at his disposal, Cuilleron has the freedom to explore and refine his winemaking techniques.
Notably, all the elegant AOP whites from Domaine Yves Cuilleron undergo a meticulous aging process. Spending nine months in barriques on the lees, they benefit from regular bâtonnage, resulting in wines of remarkable complexity and texture. Among his whites, the St Joseph Blanc Lyseras crafted from Marsanne and Roussanne grapes showcases Cuilleron’s finesse. Another standout is the Condrieu ‘Les Chaillets,’ a cuvée derived from old vines that takes its name from the local terraces.
The red wines from Domaine Yves Cuilleron are equally compelling and consistent. The St Joseph Rouge ‘Pierres Sèches,’ named after the dry stone walls meticulously built by hand on the terraces, remains a favorite among enthusiasts. Spending 16 months in barriques, this wine offers layers of seductive, silky fruit that entice the palate.
Among the many extraordinary wines produced by Yves Cuilleron, two have captured our hearts. The Côte-Rôtie ‘Bonniviere’ and the Condrieu ‘Le Vernon’ hold a special place in our cellar, and we eagerly invest in them each year. These wines represent the pinnacle of Yves Cuilleron’s craftsmanship and serve as a testament to his unwavering pursuit of excellence.
In summary, Domaine Yves Cuilleron is a domain deeply rooted in history and driven by an unwavering passion for winemaking. With a diverse range of vineyards, meticulous cellar practices, and an unmistakable winemaking style, Yves Cuilleron continues to shape the landscape of Rhône Valley wines, producing exceptional whites and reds that captivate wine enthusiasts around the world.
