The Chene Bleu Winery, which is tucked away in the Provence’s Dentelles de Montmirail mountains, has a history as rich and nuanced as the wines it makes. The Rolet family’s innovative efforts are responsible for the establishment of this small winery, which is renowned for its sustainable methods and painstaking attention to detail.
When the land was first founded as a component of the mediaeval priory of Sainte-Madeleine in the ninth century, its history began. Monks who saw the area’s potential for viticulture worked this untamed and beautiful terrain for ages. But it wasn’t until the late 20th century that Chene Bleu started to evolve into one of the leading modern wineries.
When Xavier and Nicole Rolet bought the historic property in 1993, it was in a very bad state of deterioration. The Rolets started a massive rehabilitation project because they were passionate about winemaking and respected the history of the region. This project involved bringing the historic structures back to life and reviving the vines that had been abandoned for many years.

The name “Chene Bleu” (Blue Oak) was chosen in honour of an old oak tree on the property that stands for tenacity and endurance. This tree, with its characteristic blue-tinged bark, represents the winery’s dedication to ecological harmony and natural beauty.
The winemaking philosophy of Chene Bleu combines cutting-edge innovation with age-old methods. To improve grape quality and maintain sustainability, the Rolets used organic and biodynamic farming practices. In order to create wines that are refined and expressive, they have made investments in cutting-edge winemaking facilities.
Chene Bleu has won praise for its superb Rhône-style wines ever since its first vintage was released in the early 2000s. Their flagship wines, which bear the names of the well-known mediaeval lovers, “Abélard” and “Héloïs,” have won praise for their nuance and richness. Because of the estate’s commitment to excellence, Chene Bleu is now regarded as one of the area’s premier growers.
Chêne Bleu is dedicated to environmental preservation and education in addition to winemaking. Every year, the winery offers a comprehensive immersion into the fields of viticulture and oenology to aficionados through the Extreme Wine Experience. The Rolet family also takes an active part in conservation initiatives to preserve the distinctive biodiversity of their property.
Chêne Bleu is now a symbol of the Rolet family’s tenacity and vision. It is a location where passion, history, and innovation come together to produce wines that are a celebration of the region they originate from as well as a joy to drink. The enduring tale of Chêne Bleu is one of commitment and rejuvenation, much like the wines themselves.
