Sommelier diary #96

2022 Vosne-Romanée – Mugneret-Gibourg
Mugneret-Gibourg’s Vosne-Romanée bottling is one of the most expressive village-level wines from this storied Côte de Nuits appellation, combining precision, depth and the silkiness that Burgundy lovers cherish. The 2022 vintage, warm yet balanced, brought generous fruit and ripe tannins across the region, and this Vosne captures both the sensuality of the vintage and the site’s chalky, spiced character.
On the nose, aromas of fresh red cherry, raspberry and dark plum are threaded with hints of violet, rose petal and a whisper of forest floor. There’s a subtle perfume of spice — clove, cinnamon and a touch of black tea — that adds complexity without overwhelming the core fruit. The palate is silky and refined, with juicy bright fruit framed by polished tannins and energising acidity. Mineral undertones of crushed stone and subtle earthiness give the mid-palate shape, while the finish stretches long with echoes of wild berry, spice and a gentle savoury lift.
This is Vosne-Romanée that blends elegance with early appeal, yet shows the structure to age gracefully over the medium term.
Corked Points: 94/100
